The Examination Scheme ACIA


Experts today forecast that only multi-skilled professionals will be relevant to the needs of new management styles in the new millennium. This has been the vision of Chartered Institute of Administration right from its inception.

The Chartered Institute's professional examination scheme, which has always been based on a multi-disciplinary syllabi, is drawn to keep pace with the latest developments in professional administration techniques, make members more versatile and more relevant to the changing complexities of business practices in the new millennium as well as to reinforce the Chartered Institute's expertise in the wide area of professional practice bestowed on the Institute by its Enabling Act. The scheme comprises:

1) Diploma In Business Studies (DBS)
2) ACIA Professional Examination.

The objectives of the ACIA Professional Examination are to:

a) provide for the Institute, together with the practical experience requirements, an adequate basis for assuring society that those admitted to membership are competent to act as Chartered Administrators for entities, whether in manufacturing, commercial or service
organizations, in the public or private sectors of the economy.

b) enable the Institute to examine whether prospective members have an adequate knowledge, understanding and mastery of the stated body of knowledge and skills.

c) complement the Institute's practical experience requirements.

The new structure comprises the following three main components.
1.) Examination Courses
This is made up of three main levels, namely: Foundation, Intermediate, and Final- Professional Practice

The Professional Practice (PP) has the following two modules:

(a) Professional Practice 1

Constituted into three streams corresponding to the Institute's usual Professional Administration special isms, from which candidates will select one stream to follow, namely:

(i) PP1 A: Corporate Administration
(ii) PP1 B: Financial Administration
(iii) PP1 C: PublicAdministration

(b) Professional Practice 2

2.) Research Project

One of the following qualifications in any discipline: Degree, HND, Final Examination Certification of a Chartered Professional Body, any other qualifications approved by the Governing Council of the Institute.

Exemptions from the subjects of Foundation and Intermediate Levels may be awarded at the discretion of the Council to holders of qualifications which indicate sufficient coverage of the Institute's syllabus. There is no exemption from the subjects of Final Level.

The following regulations regarding the examination of the Institute are in force, and must be strictly adhered to by all registered students of the Institute.
1.) The Foundation Level, Intermediate Level and Final Level (PP1 and PP2) must be taken separately and strictly in that sequence. Each subject is examined by a three hour paper.

2.) Except where exempted, or where referrals are held, all subjects within a level or module must be taken together at one sitting.

3.) All the subjects of a level or module must be passed before attempting the subjects of the next level or module.

4.) Credits gained successfully in the Foundation and Intermediate Level papers can be retained, to prevent unnecessary re-taking of examinations in these two levels.

5.) All the subjects of each Final Professional Practice module must be passed in a maximum of two consecutive sittings; otherwise all the papers must be retaken.

6.) The pass mark of all papers is 50%.

Membership of our Institute can be gained only by passing the institute’s professional membership qualifying examination the ACIA and fulfilling the practical experience requirement.


Diploma in Business Studies (DBS)

Its Objective is to develop fundamental knowledge in the theory and practice of general business organization, the Nigeria business organization, and the functional areas of business organization


ACIA Professional Certificate

Its objectives are to:

  1. Train Chartered Administrators for entitites in manufacturing, commercial or service organizations, in the public or private sector of the economy
  2. To examine whether prospective members have an adequate knowledge, understanding and mastery of the stated body of knowledge or skills
  3. To complement the institute's practical experience requirements
