President of the Chartered Institute of Administration (CIA) Dr. Chima GUK has said that leadership as a critical component of growth and development in any environment has been a subject of heated discussions and arguments throughout history.

He made the assertion at the launch of a book entitled: ‘New Leadership Approach: Paradigm Shift’ recently in Lagos.Chairman of the event and leader of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, O’tega Emerhor congratulated the author for his insight into the issue of leadership, especially in Africa.

His words: “It is really an timely contribution to the Nigerian society and golden imprint on the sands of time. Writing a book of this quality must have taken time and resources.

“I heard of the concept of paradigm shift about 20yrs ago. To me, it is a major watchword and with a combination of thinking outside the box, which forms part of the lecture today only portrays the deep knowledge base of the book’s content, which can salvage this country from leadership crisis.”

A professor of management, Prof David Iornem, who spoke on, “Transformational Leadership; Thinking Outside the Box,” said: “Writing on transformational leadership presents enormous challenges. First of all, there are tons of ideas to wade through books, journals and the internet.

“Secondly, one is constrained because you have less than 30 minutes to make a presentation. During my research on this subject, I found the ideas of Brendon (2017) and Brian Trace (2017) extremely appropriate and useful. I have, therefore, relied on the work of these two scholars while wetting them with my own writing on the subject of leadership.”

Speaking for Legacy Consult, which hosted the event, Omenihu Alfred, said: “It is our intention to push this mandate to a superlative degree, especially at a time when leadership has turned enigmatic in our country and Africa at large.”

In a concise, straight forward style, Chima focuses on essential and time-tested qualities necessary for true leadership, which includes influence, integrity, attitude, vision, problem-solving, pragmatism and self-discipline, among others.“These will guide readers through practical steps to develop true leadership in their lives and the lives of others,” he stated.
